2005 passed away with a big bang when for the first time I went to the movies all by myself to watch the King of all Kong’s. This was the first time in my life I actually did this and it was befitting to the parting that was to come later that night. I asked quite a few people to accompany me but the general reaction was “king kong” – U want to show me an ape for 3 hrs???
Sad, very sad indeed. Mortals – it’s the King for god’s sake.
Actually I ran into quite a few acquaintances from a past life, lonely souls like me for whom this movie was a must on day 1. We all got together in the empty theatre a cheered the king while he took on all the beasts from the dark ages to win his beloved. The screenplay as very tout and the symbolisms- esp. the one’s with the human hero and the super-human was very real. Wake up Spielberg! Protect ur legacy.
The fun part was over once the movie ended. The new yr was ringed in at the airport with farewells to a dear friend who for 6yrs never left my side. Together we watched more movies than the number of times we must have gone to Engg classes. Stayed up late to watch championship matches and analyzed them more critically than the people involved themselves. I want to go on… probably will, probablywon’t…
Surprisingly, the only guy who was probably lonelier than me and the only one I wanted to call at that moment sounded really cheerful. At last when I reached him a couple of hours later- thanks to the congested mobile services, he sounded full of life. Never thought Mangal Pandey could do that to some people.
I had the chance to catch a few other good movies this week. American President was long overdue and it did not disappoint me. Shikhar on the other hand did.
Lastly, Naomi Watts! Damm. Green Eyes or Blue!
